Project Description

Field performance tests by Woodside Energy Limited (WEL) observed a drop in the discharge head of the aft lift pump and main firewater pump on OKHA FPSO. The reduction in discharge head was suspected to arise from pump suction piping geometry resulting in unequal flow into the double suction pumps.

Access Petrotec modelled the suction pipe work in ANSYS FLUENT CFD software and worked out velocity distribution across the cross section of the pipe work.

Necessary recommendations were made to overcome this performance issue. CFD models in the pictures depict flow distribution across the cross section of suction pipework and the results which were utilized to improve equipment performance.
